Cytomegalovirus is detectable through blood serology where the presence of antibodies specific to this virus is demonstrated. It is a virus from the family of herpes viruses that can remain in a latent state in the body and develop symptoms mainly in immunocompromised people, whose defences are weakened.

Serology measures anti-CMV IgG and IgM levels.
